Hello, I bought Toshiba MG08ACA16TE 6 months ago. Initially it had that sound when starting up but for very short period of time. I thought that was normal as it might do some sort of head aligning or stuff like that.

But now after PC reinstall that sound started to repeat every 5-6 seconds and it is very annoying after a while.

Maybe someone here knows what that sound is and what causes it? It is possible that some app is causing it or it has to do something with a state of the disk?

I have several diagnostic apps installed, Crystal Disk Info and HD Tune Pro shows that everything is ok. Could not find any Toshiba-specific diagnostic software, such as Magic Disk for Samsung.

Please listen to the audio in the following link: https://soundcloud.com/user-897646141/hdd-sound

Thank you!

I bought 2 MG08ACA16TEs last August, running in raid 0 configuration from then on. The one with firmware v4002 will be clicking or making an spin up sound when there are no read/write operations for a while. But the one with firmware v4303 runs quietly all the time. There is noticable read speed drop if the clicking sound comes out while doing pool srubbing. All smart data seems good so far. But I not sure there is no issuse underneath.
@andriusp, can you share the firmware version of the MG08ACA16TEs? Thanks!
