WD10SPZX-24Z10T0 F/W: 0012000T Can't Unlock

August 14th, 2022, 11:45

HDD: WD10SPZX-24Z10T0 F/W: 0012000T

I don't have unlocked PCB 800066 (Palmer)

used MRT 2.1.7.1(First) to unlock rom then wrote the unlocked ROM in PCB which had already Patched ROM (0005008J), but no spinup (locked ROM Spin)

Result.jpg

Then i asked one friend who have PC3K to Patch the ROM, That also gives the same result.

Attached Original + Patched ROMs( MRT and PC3K)

WD10SPZX-24Z10T0.rar
(1.75 MiB) Downloaded 176 times

Then Tried with https://firmware.hddsurgery.com/dl.php? ... 7NKHF4.zip
It also gives the same result. Both Original ROMs SPIN , Both Patched ROM - Error with No SPIN

is anything wrong with Patched ROM

Unlocking Process works with 0005008J but not work with 0012000T

Weird.

Here is a thread where a user has exactly the same ROM version, with exactly the same PC3K unlock patch, exactly the same ROM code, yet his drive will spin up:

Check motor contacts on pcb, they're very delicate on this type of pcb.
If contacts are a little squized against pcb itself then drive will not spin or spin just sometimes.
Use a pair of tweezers to pull up contacts so that they can touch against motor contacts fermly, then screw the pcb fermly on hdd.

P.S.
Do not use to much force, be gentle with those tiny contacts.
Also, you should check ROM solder joints. If needed resold it properly on pcb by using a bit of flux.

What are the markings on the MCU? I'm wondering if your MCU has different kernel firmware which may make it incompatible with PC3K's unlocking patch.

In that other thread the MCU ID was "88i1053A0 0x(5460)". "A0" is the "custom code or die revision". You can find that at the end of the third line on the MCU.

Does "Jakiro's" unlocked ROM spin up your drive? If so, then that would point to something in the adaptives.

There is a 3 year difference in the manufacture dates, but the "custom code or die revision" is A0 for both.

Started PCB only with One unlocked ROM 0050008J
Then wrote original Locked ROM (Write ROM) and saved ROM modules
Edited Head map to 01 only
on Power Reset get the same err as shown First Post image.

Any change in the ROM gives err
