Hello everyone,
i have an external hard drive WD20NMVW-11C3NS2 3TB does not detect the drive, disk utility shows not intialised, WDUtilities shows 0 bytes and no smart data available. Lmost newbie with these new drives so any help as to where to start will be appreciated. Physicaly it detects as my passport ultra and spins but nothing else.

Looks like you didn't work on WD busy problems, suggestion of heads will be careless move in the beginning. If drive not clicking it is 99.9% WD busy problem. And now I can solve WD busy problem online for users, If he wish to give me access to the drives.

I suggest you work on your own WD problems rather than digging up year old threads trying to make yourself look more knowledgeable than you actually are - move along.

It was WD and you Got Seagate Totally different scenario will be.

I did not saw the date but it was too early to suggest heads and do you know

Why? Pebble Beach drives are much easier to work with, compared to other families.

He also said *probably* heads, so there's that too.

+1 - agree with Northwind, 10 headed Pebble Beach is a nice drive to work with.
Also the the "WD busy problem" happens because of weak heads, so "probably heads" is very likely.
