Have a huge 8TB Volume that's been working flawlessly for 6 years, all of a sudden not accessible with "incorrect function" on Windows Server 2016 PERC H700 controller RAID 5 for that volume. The problem is I have critical data on that volume that for some reason IS NOT backed up (95% of the volume is but the data I need was "missed") so I need to be able to "fix" this "incorrect function" error and get my volume back. The system says the volume is healthy (DISKPART), but thins the volume is RAW but it's actually NTFS of course. My option to reformat the volume and restore data is not an option. I've rescanned the disks. I've done a chkdsk in readonly. I've restarted.

Of course, this is urgent! Any good advice to help get this volume back will be greatly appreciated!

Also my event log says: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 during a paging operation.

I wonder if one of the physical disks in the RAID 5 is busted. I have to try to go onsite and look at the physcial server to see (yes I know who uses physical servers anymore!).

Since we know nothing about the component disks' health, it is hard to advise in this situation.
As a first step you can power down the drives and look at raid controller logs
If you want to prepare for a worst case scenario, find a pro in your area with proper tools and expertise.
If you want to take the risk of loosing it you may try cloning the individual drives to known good ones, rebuild the raid in sw from the clones and try recovering the folder structure.

Edit: i wrote my post before your 2nd one...

all our data is on physical drives somewhere. Don't be so rude to physical servers :) It is frightening how everybody just give their data to service providers...

I would also twist it to "It is frightening how service providers push everybody to just give their data to them..."

I work in Edu sector and we have less than 10 apps installed on student PCs anymore. Most have gone cloud. enterprise software included. To not do it would mean jumping through hoops, with no support from Gov.
