Hi everyone, I'm a newbie.
My Book 12TB external USB HDD is giving me trouble. I put it aside after using it for a while to store some data, and now that I've had it for a while, it doesn't function when I try to access it. Since I'm not particularly knowledgeable about this, I'm hoping to discover a solution.
The issue is described as follows: Folders Manager does not display the hard drive. The hard drive is displayed as Disk 2 - Unknown - 9314GB - Not Inistialized - Unallocated in Windows disk management. Additionally, I get the notice "The device is not ready" when I click Initialize.
The disk "My Book" is displayed on the header with a green checkmark in the WD Drive Utilities software. However, "SMART status failed" appears when I click Diagnose-Run drive test.
When I click the tray icon in the WD Discovery software, the disk appears in the list; however, all I get when I click the parameters is the message "Edit password".
I tried using different software to scan the HDD (as suggested by some links), but they all seemed to give me two different kinds of errors: either they say that "all" the sectors are bad, which seems strange considering how new and infrequently used the HDD is, or they stop the scan at the first stage, stating that there are too many damaged sectors.
So, what should I do?
