HGST WD Palmer in disguise ext error NO SATA Connection

May 4th, 2024, 8:30

I have this HGST Drive which is a WD Palmer 2.5 family

Model : HGST HTS541010B7E610
Serial : WXU1E87CLSFH
Firmware : 03.01A03
Capacity : 1 000 GB (1 953 525 168)

- It IDs fully and Readies. However have issues like Slow Responding (slow reading modules) -> Knowing its an SMR drive the Slow Responding fix is not an option

- So are there any options to fix this issue in SMR drives???

- 1 more thing: During DE. The Head 0 reads slowly so i turned it off to run Head 1 first. However often now and then, the drive clicks and shows an error

Read sectors (123 021 570-1) ext error NO SATA Connection
Error read LBA = 123 021 570 [Head-1]
Software reset...
Hardware reset Ok

Is there any way to fix this issue???

Thanks!!

Have you tested the heads? Have you tried to do a headmap and read only 1 head at the time?

PS: seems you have done it. It shows bad/weak heads that need to be replaced.

Yeah. The head 1 Seems to read fine and speed is 10-20mb/s
I finished reading head 1

Head 0 is super slow. So i guess i will change them tomorrow

Thanks!
