I am working with 4x 40GB D540X and version 2.34 & spare pcb's.

One drive recorded H=4 and a pcb replacement produced good drive :).

One drive is in good order.

However 2 drives record similar, I assume well-known problem - H=1.

loader with native CP10 to ram, (tried also CP10 & CP07) allows to read modules but writing correct pages to disk - fails. Also ldr always reports error on completion.

question : is the pcmx540k.ldr universal to all in family 44 i.e. does
the same loader work for 20,40,60 & 80GB ?

faulty pages found (maybe more) are :

CP06 47 45 4E 45 52 49 43 20
CP08 01
CP13 44 01
CP14 0F 00 03 00 00 00

any ideas ??

For the amount of drives i have tested, i reach the following concludions:

1 - The pcmx540k.ldr is universal for this family, no matter size and firmware version.

2 - When the drive receives constantly CP8=01 (even after CP re-write), you probably have a physical defected head (generally head 0 is good and head 1 is the problematic one). You can try to exchange the head stack (if data is important) or reduce the hdd size to 20gb ajusting its firmware

Regards,

-BR-

Hi -BR-,

I must assume this to be correct, however the loader has never worked correctly on any 44 family drive.

Something tells me this might not be the case, but you probably are correct.
Data is not important for any of the test drives, but I have noticed no solution on other forums
and would like to get to the nitty gritty of these drives.

I have now studied all the modules of faulty drives with those of a good identical drive and I hope to reach some conclusions as time allows.

e.g. in two cases 60 (p-list) is completely wrong as is D5.

Hopefully I reach some conclusion and will give some feedback.

Any comments would be much appreciated, but I do believe that the single loader file available is faulted - checking this out as well.

What I have found is that only the following modules vary between drives:
71,74,76,D5,0E,08,60,61,65.

Something tells me that the structure of 08 might be important :)
