how do I restore the firmware to my Maxtor drive recognized as ATHENA.

20Gig
WAH21PBZ

I am trying to use pcmx_dsp but always error
- drive does not report ready in 15 sec.

I suspect that pcmx seeks drive at address 0x100 but only have standard controllers at address 0x1f0 and 0x170.

Using drive in safe mode at secondary master controller [II]

OK. MHDD v2.9 sees the drive [3] Secondary Master.
This is giving me hope.

Bur when I press F2,

Maxtor ATHENA Firmware: WAH21PBZ LBA's: 40021444

Device Reset... OK
Setting Drive Parameters... FAIL
Recalibrate... FAIL

Can MHDD help me here ?

OK, thank you Dmitry for the answer.

I sure would like to take the time and learn more about MHDD. But for now, I have a Maxtor to restore before shipping it back to Mac Store...

Regards,

I finally gave up on the idea of repairing the drive. My only wish was to retreive my client's usefull data. It finally happened 4 weeks ago with the help of a professional data recovery service. If you ask me, it cost wayyyyy too much but then again, I wasn't able to succeed...

The drive was promptly shipped back to MacStore for warranty service/exchange. Last friday, I had a "delivery notice" in my mailbox from carrier service to call them back so they could deliver a package from Maxtor. So I should get more news about this drive sometime this week.

Cheers all,
