It has it's downfalls yes but... Every one of you are here and also have searched and been shared with information. Finally anyone doing this without special hardware has got help along the line as well there is no reason to act like a mule because someone is not as far along in the education of hdd technology we all start with nothing and we all get help. Gatekeeper business is a thing of the past imho the only people you will service is the rest of the 80% of the population who are too lazy to attempt to understand something.

So what do you have to contribute?

I have tried every way to convert this hex into plain text. I believe the sequence for this is 23 1e 2f 08 08 03 08. When I attempt to type that sequence in using the alt key the 008's delete the previous characters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jason

Somethings in hex can't be converted directly to ASCII characters, that's why the editor shows periods for the corresponding byte. You need to convert the hex to decimals and try to input them that way.

035 030 047 080 080 030 080. Using the ALT-GR key. Not the standard ALT key on the left. You need to hold down and release the ALT-GR key after every sequence of numbers inputted. That's what I understood. Try that. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Hi all, First of all, i would like to congratulate you all in giving up your time to help some n00bs like myslelf. Well Done.
I have been able to get Soo Far with getting my HDD Password. I have managed to dump the file using MHDD however have tried every suggestion on here to get the password :(

Here is a screenshot of my dump and would be forever grateful if you could give me the Master Password.
Regard
Jamie Cruickshank

Thanks in advance!

You should ask infringer, he knows how to help you. He even published his own guide for resetting passwords

I did first convert it to decimal and tried using the right hand alt key with the number pad. If anyone tries it and inputs 008 it's the code for backspace.
Except for the fact that the hex characters 03 & 08 when converted to decimal are still 003 & 008 according to every converter i've tried. You have the hex code 1e = 030 & 03 = 030... they both can't be the same.

So it should be 035 030 047 008 008 003 008, but that doesn't work.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks ri0toUs you got me to the right place.

Entering the decimals into mhdd it deleted the characters.
Entering the decimals into hdat2 put in what the decimals represented instead of actually performing the command.

Drive is now unlocked! woo hoooo!

A friend of my wife bring me a laptop with "Enter HDD Password" on startup.
After doing investigations, I found the disk is a WD1600BEVT.
I search all over the Net and find explanations about the message, as I didn't heard about this before.
After lot of searches, I found this forum, with all the explanations about MHDD.
Thank you to all for your contribution,

After loading and executing MHDD 4.5 with the good scripts, I was able to locate the password string.
But I have the same problem than others : it was coded-like.

Then I red all the posts and found those with coded strings and "decoded passwords"

I don't have the magical program which decode the strings, but I found how it work ! :D

In my log (22.bin) , I can read somewhere :

00 01 07 00 1F 00 12 00 30 00 00 00 ....

the coded user password is composed by : 1F 12 30

look at the keyboard scan codes table located at : http://flint.cs.yale.edu/cs422/doc/art- ... APNDXC.PDF

and find the password in clear : s e b

that's all.

It took me a while to analyse and find it, but I think Internet is a sharing stuff that's why I want to write this post, maybe will it be usefull to many .....

Thanks again for all informations I found Here.

I'm one of those who have a difficulty unlocking the WD HDDs.
I have WD1600BEVS locked.

Following the instructions a extracted password containing part. But seems like the hdd doesn't accepts the password I'm trying to enter.

According to the screenshot provided I assume that Master and User password is 31 18 13 32 1e 32 1e 12.
But when I try to enter 'normamae' the system tells me that the password is wrong.

Any clues?

I believe the password for the Maxtor/Seagate drive will be stored on the Vendor Track. You may like to read the following thread for ideas.
