Use SeDiv to read the Vendor Track, assuming it supports your particular model.

Then someone may be able to analyse the data for you.

Now this is starting to get annoying........
The topic in this thread is Western Digital password removal. It has nothing to do with Maxtor or Seagate!
You have been given ideas how you might be able to diy the password so get on and do it or take it to a local recovery professional.
Oh and start your own thread instead of hijacking this one.
Search, read, then ask questions.

I suggest for this case to go to Seagate forum (on Seagate website) or call Seagate directly. I'm sure they will give all the answers.

I used marvr_r as well as ZU and nothing helped .. maybe my mainboard chipset is not suitable? or i need an sata/ide adapter? does that matter?

The drive is correctly shown in BIOS, and in mhdd eid command displays as usual, security is set on, max

I can't answer your questions. You could try contacting the author:
http://nazyura.hardw.net/000007.htm

Alternatively, try configuring the SATA controller for legacy or compatibility mode in your BIOS setup.

guru, If I were in luck I would not write here for help :) Master password is changed by the shitty recorder hardware, so factory default master pass wont work (I tried desperatly in lack of other ideas, different lenghts, even putting in hex with victoria).
I see in this thread that someone has read his pass from wd5000avvs, but he doesnt replays private message, hope someone will help me. Pleas PM me with any clue
cheers
and respect for the gurus
Peter

http://www.hddunlock.com/drives/wd/

Your model isn't listed, but "HDD Unlock Wizard may support more drives than listed here. Please run HDD Unlock Wizard to find out whether your drive is supported — it's free ..."

Unlocking costs US$30.

You are not unlucky . In a nutshell :

1) As previously said, there are legal implications about giving away info that can be used to gain arbitrary access to someone else's data (the fact that someone publicly released some info for a specific drive doesn't mean every day is Sunday) or potential unlawful purpose.

2) DVR disk : the locking mechanism is part of the copy protection of copyrighted material.

3) If you go to a decent DR specialist , the cost of the unlocking will be few EUR /$ BUT probably you have to sign something about property of the disk AND/OR limitation of responsibility as nobody want to have troubles for few $/EUR. At least for me it happens, and all my colleagues I know for sure they do the same. Sorry, but this is not Far West.

4) This is not Far West neither a call center. You can ask but if you don't get any answer, either because MANY people CAN'T and the other DON'T WANT TO give an answer, there's nothing you can do.
Of course I know and all the pros know how to solve your question, simply probably was decided that it is not possible or worth or sane or legal or whatelse to give the answer. At least at present and here.
Personally I do not endorse the dispersal of information, but it's me. I don't care about the rest or what other people do.

Suggestion : go to WD site forum and ask the same question.

I suspect that your model stores the password in the same place as other similar models, but perhaps the author of HDD Unlock forgot to include it. It may be worth contacting him/her.
