Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

It appears to me that the user and master passwords each occupy a block of 32 bytes.
The password string appears to be terminated in a NUL byte (00).
The header consists of three bytes, 01 07 00.
The master password is 31 bytes long and consists of "WDC" repeated ad infinitum.
The user password appears to be ...
3E A8 00 42 DC 3E 24 F5 C5 6A 45 69 01 E6 0D 78 08 C9 86 F2 00 00 ...
If the NUL byte is indeed the delimiter, then the password is Alt-062 Alt-168.
OTOH, if NULs are part of the string, then there is no way to enter them via the keyboard, at least not in DOS. Furthermore, there is a 0D character which corresponds to a carriage return. This character will itself terminate keyboard input. Therefore such characters would need to be piped via file input rather than ordinary keyboard input.

Your HDD details ( model.... etc ) ?
February 14th, 2010, 4:31
The model is Hitachi HTS543216L9A300 and the laptop is Acer 5515.
As soon I boot up the laptop I am getting the following error message.

I hope that helps.

Unfortunately, you will need a special tools (hardware/software) to unlock your drive. ( specially Hitachi will be more complex than other brands to unlock ).
Seek for a PRO near you in this forum to fix your drive, he will fix it with reasonable price.
Good luck

There is no further help for Hitachi, you DO need pro tools for this case. There is no freebie solution for Hitachi.

Hi,
my name is Markus and i´m from Germany. First, I apologize for my bad english. I found this forum and this post when i was looking for an solution about a locked Acer Aspire Hard Drive. I read the whole post and with the post from M0RBI0US and MHDD and the 22.bin i could unlock it because the user Password was plain text.
But now i have anather problem. I have an Humax Satelite Reciever with HDD built in. I know that the Reciever set the HDD to high security and set a user and a master Password. I try to built in an WD2500AAJB. Before i built it in i had set an Master password with ATAPWD that i can erase the HDD when im gona use it again in the PC. I read id out whit MHDD and the master PW was there as plain text. So i built it in and the receiver had to Format the HDD. And now there is nothing as plain text anymore. I had attached the 22.bin as an .jpg that i read out.
When i understand the post from fzabkar right, the Password starts after the 01 07 00. but there are more than 32 Signs included and i dont know where it starts and where it´s ending.
Could somebody help me whit that problem?

Hi Guys,
could anybody tell me if it works also for Samsung HDDs?
I have a problem with a locked MP0804H and couldn't manage to unlock it yet nor to erase it with hdderase.
And buying a new device is not an option since I'm a student with a rather small budget.
maybe there are only other regs?
I'll keep playing around with MHDD but i'd be grateful for any suggestion.

cs.bin and mhdd.exe have to be in the same directory
Password we can read without problems from 22.BIN
This script does not work with WD5000AVVS drive. It finishes with:
LINE 8: SECTORFROM - CS.BIN
ERROR: drive reports error
Does the WHDD support this drive?

I have too locked 500GB HDD WD and script does not works.
Have someone other script that works fine?
I think that WD drives have more type of chips (Marwell...) and script work only for some types.
