MHDD mentioned, "WARNING : tHIS DRIVE IS LOCKED BY ATA PASSWORD".

The locked Hard Drive is WDC WD2500JB-00GVC0
SN : WD-WCAL78032380

Do you guys have any idea of how to unlock the drive without paying $50?

ALL my important files are buried in there.

If you know the password, use MHDD to remove. If you do not know it, it needs to be unlocked professionally. Send to a specialist. If data is not worth more than $50, then you should consider it lost forever.

Come on guys, I posted that script back in February 2005 (almost 4 years ago) here
It is useless for modern hard drives...

Yes, Dimitry this script is for old WD WDC, for new WD (Marvel) is soft Mavr_r. from nazyura which can read module 2 and in it is saved a password.

Re: Unlocking ATA Password for Western Digital

January 27th, 2009, 0:01

I downloaded the MHDD 4.5 files and extracted them on a floppy boot disk.

I created a script I called MASTER. The contents of that script follows as posted by Nirvanowiec :
Code:
; rm modul id 42
reset
waitnbsy
regs = $57 $44 $43 $00 $00 $a0 $8a
waitnbsy
regs = $00 $02 $00 $00 $0F $E0 $21
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 42.bin
; End.

After running the script in MHDD it creates a 42.bin file on my floppy drive.

When viewing that 42.bin file I see the following:

Am I doing something wrong? I don't see a password?

The CS.BIN Solution posted above did not work, I got a "drive" error message.

how did you make the cs.bin file? If you used a text editor that would not work.

Problem Solved - Hard Drive will not power on any longer, no need to unlock a dead drive. Yeah! That's one way to fix it.

You will need terminal to read/write seagate firmware , so it can not be done by MHDD .

Hello.
How do I get into Terminal in MHDD?
Do I need a special cable?
I've done a batch file with the instructions, to unlock the disk, but it says "Unknown command"

Thanks,

Rodrigo

Nirvanowiec, you are awesome!

The script worked perfectly! While the ones at this page didn't work for much:
http://yura.projektas.lt/files/wd/mhdd/index.html

Some hitches:
Had to set BIOS to IDE->Enhanced -> Native, and things worked. Didn't like IDE in flat out compatibility mode, and AHCI bombed horribly. (Board is non-public Intel 975x chipset w/ very weird BIOS options for IDE/SATA)

Also, after much tearing out of hair, I just got to the point of booting off CD (which sadly is PATA) and running the older MHDD off a usb flash drive (seen by system as C:, heh).

The end result was that I was able to very happily remove a password on a drive; this drive I've had for a long time. No interesting data on it; just kept in case 'some day' I found a way to deal with it. (Actually, figured from what I'd read before, that at some point, I could just reformat the drive and have a spare, but this was way more fun.)

For people interested, the first post is with a password (NOT the original: I set this one, and it'll be exactly obvious, especially if anyone happens to enjoy the movie reviews from spill.com (watch on youtube, less annoying than loading their site!) but even if not, it'll be absolutely obvious):

To make it very clear, as far as I see, the only changes, are these (first password, than unlocked):

00000140 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

This might be useful to someone else to do something? I wish I knew a lot more, like how to dump the whole firmware; none of the tools like marv_fl.com work when the drive's attached to SATA (on this system, anyway) and it's been too long since I did a COM file to quickly fix it. (For that system, port 0xFC00 for beginning IO, and 0xF882 (I think) for control). Would really love to know what the bytes in the feature register do in the mhdd script for this, and if there's a way of specifying reading more than a sector at a time.

Anyway, this forum rules... thank you to the people here who post helpful stuff, instead of just telling people they don't need to know. For me, I didn't have to have this drive's password cleared, but it's really neat to have done so!

So ive been working around with the scripts in this post for a couple of hours now to no avail. Im thinking it might be my type of HDD, which is a WD Scorpio WD1600B EVT (SN: WXE808CN3140). If anyone has the ata commands for this hard drive, Id would love you forever. Its my girlfriends laptop and we really dont have the money to shell out for a new hard drive or to even get it fixed. Anyone feel like helping?

Re: Unlocking ATA Password for Western Digital

There are free services that will unlock drive AND ERASE EVERYTHING ON IT. Otherwise, live with it. I won't help and I say it clear because : 1) it's proprietary info and 2) there is a specific legal issue - imagine what...
Nevertheless, maybe someone else doesn't care so sit and wait.

Honestly we dont care if we lose all the data on it, we just want to be able to use her laptop, since its a pretty decent machine and its the only one she has. Mind sharing some details on said services? I did a google search and can only come up with ones that require an OS to be open, which I cant do considering its a laptop.

http://www.hddunlock.com/

You have to connect the drive to another PC to use it. Read very carefully and BE CAREFUL. Perform everything on a PC where there is no critical data, so a wrong action can not destroy anything valuable.

Probably this is the solution you're searching for.

AGAIN, THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE PROCESS, YOU WILL LOOSE EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVE AND YOU'LL HAVE TO PARTITION THE DRIVE AGAIN AND REINSTALL O.S. , DRIVERS, APPLICATIONS AND EVERYTHING ELSE SO BE CAREFUL IF YOU HAVE ONLY RECOVERY PARTITION ON THE DISK AND NO O.S. MEDIA !! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONSEQUENCIES.

Note : if the drive has been locked by internal failure and not by forgotten password, hddunlock won't help and the drive has to be serviced.

Let me know if it fixed the problem.

Alterative just buy a new laptop hard disk

Either way you are going to have to reinstall WIndows and all applications

and if you retain the old disk, you can get it unlocked or recovered, for a fee, if you suddenly remember something you need
