Interesting. Are you sure you read the whole thread?

Re: Unlocking ATA Password for Western Digital

Haha completely. Did every script, tried the one from 4 years back, and even combined different ones together to see what would happen. Either got a No DRQ error, got a 0kb empty 42.bin, or got a 1gb 42.bin with no info in it. I dont know if this helps, but its a 2.5" SATA drive. By the way, I appreciate the comments back on this, helpful or not. :D

Just tested on a WD1600BEVT, script from page 2 works fine.

Is it the one that has the cs.bin file?

Ok, this is how Im doing this.

I launch with a CD, then exit out so I can boot from a flash drive. I open up my hard drive and type ID to make sure everything is cool. After that, i type .md (my scripts name is md) and then it tries to run that script. When it gets to the cs.bin file, it says that it cant open it. Im doing the cs.bin file in notepad, so Im not sure if thats bad or not. Any clue why it cant open the cs.bin file?

Try using a hex editor to make it.

So, I did that and now it says "Drive reports error" when it gets past cs.bin. Now, I dont know what this means, but i have a question.

Can anything harmful be done to a locked drive through MHDD? Cause my girlfriend decided it would be a GREAT idea to go in to MHDD (not sure if she selected the drive or not) and type help to see all the commands, and proceed with typing them all in to see what they do.

26 17 1E 32 I guess is the password?
I tried entering this into MHDD is there a special way to enter hex digits? instead of asc?

Thanks
Mick

Re: Unlocking ATA Password for Western Digital

I actually just figured out a way to do it with MHDD.

If you convert the hex into decimal

You can then hold down the ALT-GR key, then on the numeric keypad type the decimal code (3 digits pad with 00s), and it will give you the asc character for that number :)

so the master password was:
14 24 16 17 2D 31 05 02 (hex)

which decimal is
20 36 22 23 45 49 5 2

so I held alt-gr and typed 020 036 022 023 045 049 005 002 (you need to release the alt-gr key after each 3 digits typed)

drive unlocked!

Thanks again guys

Mick

02 00 00 01 78 00 32 00 20 00 55 FF 00 01

You would need to enter

020 000 000 001 120 000 050 000 085 255 000 001
(alt-Gr key pressed while typing each 3 digits, then release)

Look at EC command - even hdd passport was not read. Software cannot work in this case, as it cannot make you a sandwitch.
http://yura.projektas.lt/files/wd/royl_mhdd.html - first movie for disbelievers - works 100%.
