Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

So I ordered a PCB. It was supposed to have the same part number as my existing drive. When I exchanged the replacement PCB with my original board, the bios showed that something was in the port, but it was labeled as "Empty". The system was able to boot using the windows XP boot disk and I managed to get a copy of the ROM using WDR Demo. The filename for the replacement PCB ROM was 082c.bin while my original PCB ROM was 092c.bin. I ran the Clear Password Action, and was told that it was a success, but on a subsequent boot it still acted as if the password was in place.
I then booted and tried MHDD and HDAT2, but neither program could actually see this drive on any port.
Looking at the original and replacement ROMs shows that the PCB is actually for a 500GB drive while my original was 750GB. The order was supposed to match the part # for a 750GB drive.
Should swapping the boards be sufficient or do I need to flash the replacement ROM into the original ROM? I'm a little concerned about writing this replacement ROM to my original PCB now that it appears that the replacement PCB/ROM is not actually for my drive. Especially if there is a high chance that the original ROM can't be flashed back based on a copy that I made earlier.
The replacement PCB seemed a little mangled where one of the board contacts touched the other part of the drive so I tried to rebend the metal so that it was more similar to the other 3 contacts. Since then when I boot, my bios will now recognize that the replacement PCB is a "Hard Drive", but does not get any other device information, and the system will not boot off my CD drive in order to get into the win xp or MHDD if the replacement PCB is on the HD.
Haven't tried SeDiv or had a chance to get an older computer.
Thank You.

+ for Spildit

If it still doesn't work out your best chance is to send the drive to someone with better tools for unlock.

With the original PCB the system again asks for a pw.
I'm interested in the DIY aspect of this to learn, even though I may never need to do this again. It has been a while since I've done something interesting like this due to my typical day to day work.
Would the issue be that the replacement ROM is designed for a different size drive or is too different from my drive even though it is 10 older than my original ROM?
If I use the replacement PCB, the system will no longer boot at all.
Thank You

Spildit, thanks for your time.
I have put a bios password and I know it & I can enter the bios and change settings, but the password doesn't work with the HDD.
I read here that the redo backup factory reset does not put a password to any HDD
actually the interface when i boot is from Dell Company exactly like this pic (but different serial)
http://www.online-unlock.com/UserFiles/ ... d_595B.gifhttps://sourceforge.net/p/redobackup/di ... /dcebd388/i'm going to use your suggested tools as well as other tools suggested in the link above and see what will happen.
I really appreciate your help.
