Hey everyone, I am a little new to this whole recovery thing. I am working on a diamondmax plus8 40gb drive. I have tried media tools, mhdd and ontrack easy recovery. None of the programs are even seeing the drive. It spins and doesnt sound horrible so, Would the pcb be the most likely culprit? I thought it might just because it cant even be identified. I have been looking on the forums and am wondering if I can use any other pcbs for this. It is a b8fea. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
jerkykid

It is not detected by anything not by the bios or anything else.
I want to repair the drive and recover all of my files off of it.

Probably you got a firmware problem, so if you don't have the proper tools (expensive ones) you should take your drive into a data recovery company.

In many cases not; and surtenly not for this maxtor.

Sorry, but you need special tools and good knowledge of them to repair this drive.

NO.
Further attempts can probably damage data. If it is REALLY important ask a pro. And likely it won't be for free. Sadly, sometimes the best we can do is not enough.
Regards.

Shahij,

You really should know better before you offer your opinion or advice; in the data recovery business, there is no such thing as "repairing" a hard drive.

It is only EVER "made good" for long enough to extract / recover the data. After that, it's in the bin or warranty replacement. Never, ever to be used again.

Hi

There could be one method, but it is surely not the easiest one.
HotSwap
Cloning to a second drive
rebuilding the correct LBA space to a third drive
recovering data logically
U don't need anything expensive to do this, just some programming skills and lots of time.

I also suggest taking the drive to a pro if the data is important and urgent.
U can mess up things even more making the recovery impossible.
