hey,

i've 2 of these legendary and beloved (NOT) HDD's.

the first started to act up 3 years after i bought it. the usual known problems. tons of sector failures all of a sudden.

i still was a big fan of IBM hdd's back then, so i bought the same HDD again and after only a year i had the same problems.
sector erros. so i took the hdd out of my pc and layed it onto my bed, from a height of 10cm or so and BAM .. i heard a click.

i never thought this could happen. anyways, now the hdd spins up but doesnt intialise anymore. like, the arm is stuck or something.

is there anyway of repairing this? with a firmware update or similar?

if so, what do i need? hence, i can't afford me these big hardware-software solutions :(

the one from acelaboratory is like as expensive as a 8 year old car, eh.

and i don't know if the solutions of ess or salvationdata are of any help.

thanks in advance!

I know it's tempting to try and find a cheap solution to an expensive problem. Unfortunately, Software tools won't fix a physical problem. Also, home remedies for Data Recovery rarely work, and usually make things worse. Consider it an expensive lesson. Expensive in that, you are either out your data, or you'll spend $$$ for a professional. If the data isn't important, then consider yourself very lucky.
