Hello I Got Maxtor 40gig i was wonder what S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed?

ment ?. Is it more a mechinal failure or or control failure ?

I am try to decide if be better of send this hard disk to data recovery company


I been try to figure out what excatly that error Means

Any Input or advice wou nd be great the drive is unpluged in static bag

I'm guessing you saw that message in the BIOS while booting. If so, that means that one or more parameters failed. There is no way to tell from that whether it's a mechanical failure. If the data is Priceless, and you have the deep pockets, send it to a Pro. If not, get a way to quickly copy the drive, and see if you can image it, or at least copy your data. A SMART failure doesn't necessarily mean the drive doesn't work anymore, but it does indicate it might die at any time.

It means your drive IS going to die soon.

Image it with a Non-Windows (i.e. DOS) based imager (e.g. Media Tools Pro) before it does!

Then, if the image goes perfectly you can just copy the data off the image. Or if the image struggles, you may have to use some recovery software to get your data back.

Better NOT to try and access with Windows, or it might die quicker than you think!

Yes but i only way i contine if hit f1 then disk is not found by clone software

what SW do u use?
try powering up the drive only after u got into DOS!
