problem with 40 gb Toshiba HDD2190 weird fault

ok got a laptop hard drive in 40 gb Toshiba HDD2190
the hard drive pickes up in the bios fine no problems etc
but windows does not see it or any data recovery programs.

now if i boot up into dos the drive can be seen and i tried copying the drive over
with copyr.dma

it shows it copying but it does not advance in the bar.

other weird problem is that it coming up no system files the hard drive is blanked.

so now im thinking it could be a read head problem that is at fault

this will be our next step

just wondering if any of you have come across this problem before

Most of these old Toshiba drives have bearing failures. The motor won't get up to speed and hence it won't allow data transfer.

it looks like it going to be the motor at fault.
as you where saying.

logic board is working 100%

now the qeastion is how do we get the drive going again.

can i heat up the motor hoping that the drive works.
or do you think a platter swap is the only options.

can you tell us does this hard drive have one head or two heads

To find out how many heads, etc. Google a Toshiba spec sheet.

Some people have success with heating up the motor bearing, but I never did.

Platter swap is not the only option with this drive.
