In an earlier topic, I requested information on clearing CF memory. I found the response most helpful. Since then, I have successfully used the RescuePRO utility (that came with the Sandisk CF) and the "Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool 2.36 build 1181" that I had downloaded from hddguru. Both programs effectively cleared the CF, and I was once again able to use the CF devices for DOS or Windows, both bootable and just files. However, for some reason, I cannot install a bootable Linux onto the flash card. I am using the same program I have used before, to install a customized Linux package used for operating an industrial control. I repeatedly get an error return of "unable to format compact flash".

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong, or what I need to be doing, to achieve a successful install?

Thanks in advance,

Jeffrey

Would it matter what flavor of Linux is being used?

Thanks,

Jeffrey
