What do you do when one of these fails?

It was serious. On this scale it's more like neurosurgery than repair. And sometimes it is successful. There's some chemistry, physics, material science involved.... but it is possible. Some failures are not fixable in any way with these cards. If it is a logical problem (controller problem, embedded on memory) you have to work it out.

What tools would you need to gain access to the NAND on one of these? I've always wondered about the internal makeup of one of these, perhaps using an xray machine (any recommendations?), maybe to gain access some type of mild acid (recommendations?), or a crazy small drill or laser (recommendations), once you have access i'd assume you'd need some crazy small wire to make contact with the trace (recommendations?) frankly i'd love any hints on this.

Sometimes if the drive has external contact pins I can figure out the pins w/ a working card and logic analyzer but i'm starting to see a few of these crop up.

Thanks

No Joke, serious.
That is an xray-machine used to control electronic boards and BGA solderjoints etc ..
It has a powerfull zoom feature etc...

Unfortunately, price is about 60.000$, but if you are lucky like me and can find a second-hand at a very reasonable price... :D

So i repeat, NO joke.

Best regards,

Dobre

I'll be glad to do it.
First see the state when it arrives here. Could be needing some finetuning and/or repairs.

Dobre, if you need help with the HV section, power supply or detector , just ring me on the MSN. I can help ;)

P.S. - when some answer that is not what expected is given, it should not intended as sarcasm..
It's not also my problem if I am what I am, experts here are experts and average joe is average joe aka "medioman" .
