sounds like corrupt firmware boot up on your phone

try the following

Hold down the green call key, the star key and the 3 key with fingers of one hand, then switch the phone on and keep those buttongs pressed at least until the handshake, this hard-resets the phone.

or if not try this

while phone is switched off, press * and 3 and green button, keep pressed, switch on the phone an wait for the PIN to enter

i used it and not failed once

but not total sure on sd cards

you can try the below information this has allso helped me in the recovery of some nokia files

The backup is found as \Backup\Backup.arc on the SD card.
allso try and mount the phone in linux
as sometime with some nokia phones it does not like windows os

but as the phone has been back to the phone company

they more likely reflashed the phone and replace the sd card

unless the client did not send back the sd card with the phone
if you see the backup.arc file

then the information is still there.
