Can someone explain these shenanigans??

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-Cruzer-Glide-16GB-SDCZ60-016G-82-00515-4-SDTNQCAMA-016G-USB-2-0-Flash-/161370581164?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25926fa8ac
What? I buy the Sandisk 515-4 controller based drives here right now for AU$6

there is probably the exact same board and chips inhere:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm//231455073210?pi=466130

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SanDisk-Cruzer-4GB-SDCZ36-004G-82-00511-1-SDTNNNAHSM-004G-USB-2-0-Flash-Drive-/161370580853?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25926fa775
511's are quite common too.

and many more like it... seriously why the blazes would someone pay that?

I suppose someone has realized that it is faster and easier to recover from a thumb drive if you can just move the memory to a working device. So, just like the gouging we experience with sourcing a drive for donor heads, people are now gouging us for flash device parts.

I will tin the solder pads for $100 and sell thin wire for $1 per 5cm length calling it "monolith data transfer wire"

Quote:
Q: PCB I received has a scratch / chipped transistor / discolouration
A: We manually test every PCB - chipped transistors, scratches, discolouration doesn't affect functionality. There are no “Brand New” PCBs available on the market. If it doesn't work for you, it's because firmware must be transferred, you bought a wrong board or there is another / additional issue with your hard drive.

So how do we transfer the firmware over????

This blindly copying HDD donor boards is wrong and unethical.

Straight out Lie. I can go and buy 50 of these at Officeworks right now:

Yes, you are right. They don't have many yet, so I'm guessing it's just a trial program right now to see if there's a market for all these thumb drive control chips. Sadly you'll soon have to ask customers if it's the original controller on their thumb drives the same as you have to ask if it's the original PCB on their hard drives.

We had these 10 flash drives listed for years... Someone just noticed? It was a trial run and we dumped the idea shortly after.

Don't take it so close to heart, like you said - it just got copied over. If we ever did get in a market of flash, we would edit it.
