@alindumitru46, it appears that none of the regulators (U1, U12, U17) are getting a 5V supply, yet +5V is present at the MOSFET switch (U119). This implies that the supplies are being switched by a second stage.

Can you tell us the markings on U121, U123, U2, U3, U13? I suspect that one or more of these may be load switches.

BTW, DEVSLP is pin P3 of the SATA power connector. When P3 is 0V, power is switched on. When P3 is 3.3V, power is switched off.

BTW2, I don't understand where your negative voltage readings come from ???

BTW1: I suspected what you said about DEVSLP, but I do not know how to interpret the values ​​of the measured voltages :?: .

Sorry, I can't identify those IC markings. :-(

My next approach would be to measure the voltages at all those small ICs. I would also determine their supply and ground pins by testing for continuity between the IC pins and ground, and between the IC pins and the +5V Switched test point (with power off).

U3 looks like it might be an LDO regulator.

ISTM that the solution might be a simple one, but getting there might take some time.

This is the MOSFET switch:

@alindumitru46, it may be easier for you if you measure the voltage between each end of each capacitor rather than referring to a PCB ground.

I struggled all weekend because I do not have the necessary probes :). And my friend, who should have helped me, is on vacation for a few days.
I return after doing both myself and the measurements independently.

Maybe I'll find another hdd for work, if I still started research on this forum :).

Ok,
I made the measurements according to the indications. It took me ONLY an hour and a half to finish the trick...
I hope I did not have a mishap, again :D ...

The second part, the one with the measurements on these small IC's, I hope to finish it tomorrow...

That's a lot of work.

The three main supplies appear to be present -- 1.8V, 3.3V, 1.05V.

I don't know why C168 is measuring 0V. In fact I don't understand what it does.

ISTM that the problem is most likely in the firmware, not in the hardware.

Interestingly, there are 788 views of the measurement table in less than 24h :shock: :). I'm curious how long I will take to measure all ICs :roll:
In other news, I made SMART captures to all SSD with the initial error I bought it and I'll post them as soon as I find them.
Perhaps someone can make a connection between the type of error and the apparent lack of voltage on this capacitor.

ISTM that @michaelchiklis got it wrong, ie C168 does not appear to be connected to the 1.8V supply. In any case he removed it and its location remained "shorted". :?

It could be that we are being diverted by a red herring.

ISTM that your SSD was already showing signs of problems with SMART attributes 184, 187 and 188. AFAICS, that would be consistent with your current firmware (?) problem.

Last month I captured the new SMART values for this SSD but I have somehow lost them. I'll make some more current at the weekend.
This SSD has a custom firmware for Hp (10.06.06 I think), you know that. Is impossible to update a new firmware. Especially because it is not seen in the BIOS.
At least at my level of knowledge :? .

"Firmware problems", as the term is used in data recovery, cannot be fixed with a firmware update. The problem is usually related to one of the unique, drive specific modules. In any case you cannot apply an update if the drive doesn't identify itself correctly.

It could be that your SSD is "repairing" itself and taking too long to do so. If so, then BIOS would time out while waiting for it to come ready. In such cases you would see a BUSY status in tools such as MHDD.

Perhaps you could leave the drive powered on for an hour and then see if it can be detected???

Ok,
As far as the measurements were made, it was obviously connected, more than one and a half hours. Something should have happened. I'm just trying to boot Hiren right now. I have 3 hours of state at my desk and I think it's time for something to happen :good: .

LE: Can I use another type of software like HDAT2 or Victoria ?!

Running the latest version of MHDD after 3 hours of waiting, the SSD is still not detected in BIOS or MHDD. By touching with fingers carefully, the IC' feel warm, which shows that there is definitely voltage in the circuit.
