BTW, if you decide to return the drive, please perform an enhanced secure erase and post the before-and-after SMART data. This would be of immense help in understanding the problem.

update: the first iMac is still running fine but now the second has shown the same error starting yesterday. Any news about this from any of you?

Would try to write together some tests and sample output and try to get it to someone from Apple who actually knows what we're talking about

Why don't you hit the user forums and ask for feedback from other Apple users? If you can start a big thread with contributions from other Apple users, then you might get some interest from Apple and Samsung. Otherwise it's a problem that they can just ignore.
