Hi My computer was water-damaged but the SSD is OK. The computer is unfixable but I have an external adaptor for the SSD which I plugged into my other laptop for data recovery purposes. The laptop recognises the SSD but wants to format it. I have used data recovery software (eg EaseUS) and I get a list of files and directories but on recovery none of the recovered files are decipherable, watchable etc. Am I doing something wrong? It seems that it is something to do with partitions? Many, if not all, of the files are RAW. Thank you in advance for any help. |

What file system is on the SSD? NTFS, FAT, HFS etc. What did you pull the SSD out of? Was the SSD encrypted at all? |

Hi - sorry for the delay. The ssd came out of an Acer Aspire S7. I have since tried a number of file recovery programs plus had a live chat and remote access session with an easeUS representative. The files revover to my other computer ok and 2 sectors are in FAT but the other sector (with my data) is unrecognised as a partition and the files are RAW. When checking these files some of them are partially recognisable and some are completely corrupted. The easeUS guy ended by saying that there was nothibg else to do. Is that the case do you think? The "Easus Guy" is likely nothing but a tech supporting the software, NOT necessarily supporting how to perform an advanced recovery. With that in mind, what may have been told to you may not be accurate. Have to verify further using more advanced techniques. First and foremost, should clone the drive to another drive (or create an image file). Then, lacking knowledge, thr best next thing is to confirm the findings with better tools. If you are looking for free tools, one example is DMDE. Other demo software to see what files are found is R-Studio for example. Before doing anything, should also verify the drive's condition by looking at SMART values. Read the forum a bit and you will learn a lot. |
