Just brainstorming about methods to recover data from dead encrypted phones.

All the new phones are coming with encryption built into their system, and it's looking difficult to recover.
iPhones have had encryption since iPhone 5 (i think)
Android 6.0 begins to have default Full Device Encryption on its devices.

What can we do with these?
Chip out?
Transfer chip to donor phone?
anything else?

For iPhones you need to do component level repair of the logic board.

Android it depends on the device. eMMC based devices can be read off the chip and usually don't have encryption unless the end user enabled it, which is rarely the case.

iPhone 4 have encryption too, and if I good remember 3GS too. 3G not have.
For iPhone 4 i found ECC alhoritm, but data is crypted anyway.

Android has default encryption with Android 6.0 onwards, so it seems like it's getting harder and harder to recover data from smartphones.
Logic board/Motherboard repair is not viable for extensive water damaged or bent phones.

anything else?

Depends what info you require and how quickly and your moral/ethical stance.

Recovery from alternate sources, like the cloud or ..

*Certain politician(s)* might advocate cracking the owner not the phone.

Like an innovative undertaker, it might be better to think outside the box.

Well... That depends on your definition of "extensive" I have recovered quite a few gnarly ocean/toilet phones before with a bit of effort.
