SanDisk SD5SE 128G 1002E inductance issue?

Hello all,

I have in my hand a XU51VZ from Asus.
SSD are quite specific. Ref.: SD5SE2-128G-1002E.

Asus put two of these drives in RAID 0 (nice move...) and one of them is not recognizable anymore by the SATA controller.
I tried them on two computers.

After looking for physical damage, I have found a damanged inductance. (see picture, sorry phone camera)

I tested resistance between inductance pads and it's 0ohm (or very close to).
However could it be the reason the drive is not detectable?
Anyone experienced the same "not detectable" issue?

Anyone has the specs of this inductance?

Thinking about reflowing the SSD? What do you think? Should I remove the black epoxy around controller (which is very hard) before doing so?
Can I buy the same SSD and move NAND (I have PCB rework station)? Or encryption will create problems?

The damage doesn't look significant. If you can upload detailed photos of both sides of the PCB, I'll try to identify the voltage test points for you.

Your second photo was worse than the first. :-(

Could you measure the voltages at V1 and V2 (across each capacitor)?

Could you also identify the markings on the ICs (U13, U7, ICx, ICy and the buck regulators)?

Are any of the chips getting too hot?

As for your other question, I'm not a data recovery professional, but AIUI the most common failure in flash based storage devices is corruption of firmware structures (eg Flash Translation Layer) or excessive bit errors in the NAND array.

Bad news, compared both SSDs and the voltages look similar.
All voltages seem to be good. I checked most of the big caps and they all have plausible voltage (3.3V or 1.8v for ex.)

Regarding V1 and V2:
V1 1.06v
V2 1.81v
on both SSDs (the working one and the other)

V1 looks like the Vcore supply for the controller.

V2 could be the 1.8V supply for the SDRAM and NAND flash, and maybe Vio for the controller.

Any idea on what to do?
Reflow?
Possible to change controller or you think it's not possible?

Hi. It's a long shot but you could scope the crystal oscillator or even swap it with the known working crystal from the other unit. Make sure you have a backup before just in case!

Also on the big auction site you can buy a cheap convertor to sata interface which might come in handy.

But even with dead OSC, the drive would be visible right?

Its impossible to change the controller right?
