Olympus WS-600s Recorder Data Recovery (usb device)

March 8th, 2017, 4:51

I have an Olympus voice recorder (WS-600s) with usb connection. It should power-on with a battery inserted, or while connected to a pc via it's slide-out usb connector. The device fails to power-on, and thus, I cannot retrieve the audio files contained in it. That's my objective; to recover the (wav/mp3) files inside it. I've torn it down several times and the speakers are now detached, along with the external tab for the spring-loaded, sliding power switch. Everything else still seems to be intact. I'm willing to buy a new model if needed to swap the flash chip to a new one. I just don't have the skills/expertise to even identify the flash chip, much less remove it intact for recovery.

This data may help me recover contact and time with my 13 year old daughter who's been isolated from our family and me by her mother for years now. She's lost contact with her father, family, friends and faith, and she's now habitually truant and failing in school with nobody to support her in mom's home.

Can you please help me?
If not, can you direct me to someone who can?
Desperately Yours,
Cristofero

Could we see detailed photos of each side of the PCB? Some voice recorders use an internal memory card or an eMMC.

There are several good techs at badcaps.net who might be able to repair your device, or at least transfer its memory to a working device.
