Is it possible to remove the NAND chips from an SSD and put them on another known working drive that is exactly the same model? |

Wouldn't it be smarter and easier to find out what is wrong with the PCB first? In most cases it would be much easier to replace 1 chip rather than 8. |

It would likely not work anyway as NAND chips are married to the device using software during manufacture/refurbishment. Before a device ships, MPTools (Mass production) are run and initialises the controller firmware with the specific NAND chips properties. While some controllers might tolerate new NAND chips of the exact same type, or even with same block/page layout.. many either record bad block info or get the NAND chips to do a bad block/column scan for it to hold a record. depending on how important data is though, it is a valid thing to try if you have no other option, such as controller is not supported by tools. you would have to make sure the donor SSD is EXACTLY the same though, not just same model or controller. don't like your chances, and would go Fzabkars way first. |

Some part of SA, including translation tables are located on every chip partially, so after moving a chip you have to start factory scan in order to bring drive in normal condition. |
