New Macbook and Macbook Pro chip off?

April 18th, 2017, 23:28

Anybody got any of the new retina Macbook and USB-C Macbook Pro in for data recovery yet? I'm curious to see if it is even possible to do chip off on these. The A1534 I have seen so far uses two Toshiba NANDs with LGA60, but the problem is the custom controller they are using -- it's actually a PoP IC with it's own dedicated memory on top.

Also, these are coming with filevault encryption turned on by default. I don't believe that Apple would tie the NAND to the PCH or SSD controller or use a new type of filevault that encrypts the entire NANDs instead of just the FS, but it is something they did in the past with iOS so I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Has there been any news on this yet? Perhaps Rusolut or Ace have tools coming out soon? Or maybe someone has experimented with swapping the NANDs to a working board?
