Intenso 64GB USB Drive - no access to Memory

February 19th, 2018, 11:57

Hi there,

I've an 64GB Intenso USB Stick.
If I connect it to the PC it will shown in the Diskmanager as drive without memory. So i cant assign a driveletter.

Any ideas how to recover data?

Model: unknown

How many years of your life do you have that you're willing to commit to learning flash recovery?

Likely NAND has some issue or has a ball or 2 become unsoldered. Other possibilities are firmware damage, PCB bent to break somewhere, a bad component or drive has failed because of poor quality. Alcor based drives are notorious for poor quality as these controlllers allow the most possibilities in firmware. For example you can pretty much program a flash drive with any type of memory to "be" whatever you want, true or not. common fake drives like a 1GB chip being told to act like a 32GB or 64GB.

Problem is, many real perfectly fine drives use these controllers as well.

This one we would usually rip off the chip and read in a reader, and reconstruct disk image. Around 2 hours work if standard.

you wont know anything until you start working on it - outside appearances mean fairly little. Contact a DR lab near you.

2 things you can CAREFULLY try -
-plug in drive and carefully bend upwards with a goal to put pressure on NAND towards PCB. If drive situation changes, then possible nand chip has become unsoldered on 1 or more balls. Reballing may or may not help
-plug in and bridge R5 with tweezers. If drive situations change, replace R5 with a new one or same value Resistor cannabalised from another drive. you can check other components, but usually these are not failed.

my recommendation is find a Data Recovery Lab if data is important
