Or does the device need to be repaired due to encryption? not sure when Apple started doing that.

TIA

i4 is crypted for sure. 3G not crypted, 3GS not crypted too (based on one case quite long time ago).

I have had a 3GS in for recovery a while ago. We did a chip off and the data was encrypted. I think the 3GS is where they started testing encryption, so some are and some aren't encrypted.

Hi Michal, do you remember what layout you used, or tool?

Are you speaking from experience, did you dump and recover? If so would you say which tool and give any details?

I have a 3GS chip here.

package: LGA52
marking: Micron 9VA18
Crystals: 4 x 4GB
ID : 2c d7 94 3e
Bus : 8 bit
page : 3420

possibly could be software bad columns.

Anyone done chip off on these? not convinced this is encrypted as entropy not all that high.

I have done a chip off on the 3GS and it was encrypted. FWIK, the 3 was not encrypted, the 3G is where they were testing encryption and the 3GS is was full encryption. However there may be variations to this.
