I have a Z-30 a that developed a 21h fault ( main battery charge current is more than 6.05 amp)

I have removed the drive as I need to get my data from it , the drive is a 128gb ssd THNSNJ128GMCU.

Now the problem I have is the drive will no longer accept my password which is a 6 digit numerical password, The password was working fine until the laptop stopped working .

I have used the password for several months so I know I have the correct one as I has even written it down.

When I put the drive in another computer I get asked for the HDD password , but when I enter the password it tells me it is the wrong one.

I have tried the SSD in a dual bay HP laptop and a old Toshiba satellite laptop with no luck.

Do I need to add spaces to my 6 digit password or is there a generic password the drive may have defaulted to ?

Is it possible the laptop fault has fried the SSD

Thanks

Your laptop probably doesn´t send the password as entered to the drive, but creates an internal representation of it instead.

The easier way would be to find a laptop of same model just to connect the hdd and remove the password. Or fix yours.

Failing that, some DR pro could solve it for you easily. I don´t know it there are free tools to work with toshiba.

Thanks for the reply ,

I have never used a disk recovery service , I am in Australia and several local companies are advertising that they can recover data , Is there anything I should ask that will let me know they are Pro"s ?

Hopefully the following thread will explain how your password could be encoded.

About Passwords ...

Try converting your password characters into keyboard scan codes, store them in a 32-byte file padded with zeros, and then send this file to the drive with a tool such as Victoria or hdparm or HDDSuperTool.

@buderim, have you tried to run the Z30 without the battery?

Alternatively, if the battery is fully charged, but the charging circuit is faulty, perhaps we could disconnect the charging circuit. You can contact me privately if you wish to try this. I'll need some close-up photos of the affected areas of the PCB.

Is this your model?

I have tried disconnecting the battery, Sadly the battery is flat ,I have checked it with a voltmeter .
The charger is working so it must be the charging circuit .

The model I have is the Z30-B , but it looks just the same as the one in the link you posted.

Just to update , I ended up buying a cheap Z30 laptop on gumtree , I put my locked drive in the new laptop and managed to clear the password in the bios settings . I have now got the data from the locked drive . I will never put a password on a drive ever again.
All I have to do now is sell the laptop for what I paid for it....

What do you plan to do with the defective one?
