Post subject:  More Monolithic Flash Drive Videos...

Slow week so I made a video & article.

Since almost every monolithic flash drive video focuses on the same old technology.
eg:
1. Soldering to HUGE contact pads in unimaginative ways.
2. Globbing large amounts of solder onto a PCB, fluxing it and praying it doesn't short.
3. Using laughable contraptions.

I figure let's see something different from my shop ;-)

Monolithic Flash Drive Recovery - A Basic How To

Thanks!

Just one suggestion. Resettable fuses (polyswitches) can be scavenged from the USB ports of dead motherboards. They will typically have a 1A rating (USB 2.0).

Thx, I didn't know that I pull them off SanDisk USB 2.0 Flash Drives...

Nobody things its freaking awesome that I stripped the solder mask, then created a new solder mask that exposes the vias that need soldering and protects everything else???
All within 0.01mm accuracy..

Guess I'm way behind on the times :-\

FWIW. Every time I have asked you if you do Monolith recoveries (if I didn't have the pinout) you always said no. So I didn't watch the video when I saw the post. Also the most 'exciting' bit of applying the mask you actually left out and just describe it in text. Again I missed this first time round. Anyway, congratulations JB.

Maybe those were the early days, we haven't talked much recently, I've gotten much better in the past year.
Yeah, I left out applying the mask because it's boring unless you want to see me fiddling around for 5min trying to align it up seeing the mask as a final product is the cool part.
It's in the video though..

I made a new video showing how to apply the mask.

Notes:
1. I screwed up the measurements on the bottom hole so it's not dead correct
2. Using a "little" hot air relaxes the glue so you can position it exactly where you want.

It would be interesting to see some ... :D

One idea for easier applying the tape could be using a roller like those used to apply ink to rubber stamps ( sorry, do not know what they are called and even if I´m calling it the right name.
