Hey!

After a short discussion on reddit a user kindly forwarded me to this forum.

I crushed my USB stick after a bycicle crash. The chip has a small crack and starts to overheat as soon as I plug it into a USB.

Even if I'm not very confident to recover any data successfully, I'm just getting curious how to perfom a pinout on such a chip. I own a beginner SMD station and just started with SMD in general.

So there are a couple of questions:

1. Is there any specific term for this type of piggyback / monolithic all-in-one device? First, I was pretty sure I just found the USB-Male adapter. Persons on reddit confirmed that this is a kind of all-in-one-design, with the PCB directly on the chip.

2. Considering the overheating issue: Is this an clear indication that the chip is garbage or could it be that "just" the pcb/controller is broken?

3. Considering the process of pinning-out: How do I proceed? Should I remove the USB connector and restore the blank BGA under hot air?

4. I tried to google the specification on the chip; however I had no luck, what are good resources. Are there any other resources to identify the chip?

You *could* take it to a professional, but from the picture, it seems it is dead. Or after hearing the price of the recovery, you will decide the chip is dead. :D

If chip heats after connection usually it means recovery not possible (internal short or broken crystal inside).

Crystal is broken ,Nothing can be done ,This pendrive is EOL "End of Life " .

USB can recognize chip, and you can ask some expertise for advice or look through some related books.
