Inside WD My Passport SSD

October 13th, 2018, 9:26

hello guys,

I was googling looking for someone disassembled this SSD cover but i could not find Any, so i decided to DI (Myself) the brutal way
after doing few mistakes i found the correct way of opening it which is presented here on those selected images.

Conclusion,

double face tape is holding this M2 which am trying to remove in a very gentle way to study the damn SSD Encryption and how the damn thing works.

hope this is useful for you guys..

have a good day

here is the other images after cleaning the pcb with more details:

To Lock/Unlock the drive you have to install the Security App. (comes with it), you cannot use the other older ver.

WD My Passport Init: ASM235CM (Am assuming the key is somewhere saved)

M2 SSD Controller: Marvell 88SS1074-BSW2
SanDisk SD8TN8U512G2000

the performance is really bad (M2 alone) slow compared to the others i have.
