I decapped my Micro SD Samsung 64GB, Where is the Nand Mem ?

January 28th, 2019, 9:36

Some time ago I broke a 64 Gb Samsung Micro SD memory by the point that can be seen in the photos.

I threw it away thinking that the information could not be recovered, but then I was curious to know if the NAND memory could have survived that break. So since I have another one like it, I have decided to decapp to see if I would have been lucky.

In the photos you can see how I have been gradually decapping on opposite side of the gold pads.

Now the card is so thin that I can hardly scratch more because it would break. Is the NAND memory the rectangle that I marked in red? Can someone tell me?

Thank you very much.

Yes, the NAND is the largest goldy colour rectangle.

decapping usually involves removing the package so the electronics underneath are exposed, but still working, or at least accessible for reverse engineering or testing operations.

Hopefully now you can rest easy :)

I would have been very angry to see that I could have saved the information.
