You can't recover because the data is no longer there. Open WinHex and make sure the entire surface is filled with zeros.

what is your sony camera model.
sony nx5, 70, pxw 160, pxw 200 (with sd card) etc.. camera model can be recovered.

beside sony alpha DSLR like A7,A7S etc...
can't be recovered since they are using security format like low level format. within 5 second whole chip can be formatted. even if you are changing from PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL this occurs. so if you are using this kind of camera be careful.

yes as per our experience too, DSLR camera Card is mostly recoverable.
can you find any files and can't play them ? OR you can't find any files by recovery software ?

I successfully recover after format, when all storage filled zero. Chip-off! And recovery like broken.

Chip-off method work with SD and SxS. But some cameras write "FF" in all sectors and recovery impossible.
If the client allows to unsolder the memory card, I always check zeros in the dump (pc3k, flash-extractor, rusolut). And monoliths too.
Success happens when the camera does not recording of zeros, but does like the update translator. And the memory card looks supposedly filled with zeros. Directly in NAND data remain.

Have you tried Chip-off?

Its a wipe, not recoverable even by chip off. Use the hex editor to check as mentioned.

Hex show zero if you see over card reader, if you see in nand directly you find data. Some cameras to make format use special command to controller, but some cameras really write zero or FF. Real verification only via NAND.

I don't think so with the A7, I've asked my Sony contacts before also. Be happy to see you prove it if you have one.

I spoke to one of our techs, the only reason you should ever be able to see that is if the controller is lazy and lying/cheating to appear faster.

There were some early controllers that would just skip writing ‘empty’ space - but this causes performance issues when they end up actually needing that space to be empty (eg, high res/bitrate video recording). So it’s not really a thing you see anymore - and also the real reason why full/low level formats are becoming more popular on higher end and 4k cameras.

If it is possible, I expect it would be a very old card..

To hell with philosophy))) just check the dump NAND. Chuck Norris
