what is A crystal oscillator and how do I check it please ?

regarding a break inside the plug
already checked - all four pins plus the outer square metal - and they all have continuity all the way

I did a bit of searching on the internet and I figured that testing the crystal oscillator will be above my league

so I will ask again
can anyone say please, if there is A risk involved by moving the main chip to A similar dungle (if found) ?

There is always a risk, but these shouldn't be too hard with a bit of care. I think worth a try IF the person doing it is competent. You would want to make sure it is exactly the same.. check all resistor markings under magnification to help, for example.


also are these connections OK?

you could also try plugging it in and bridging the Fuse (F1) marked with blue. bridge it with tweezers and see if it is recognised.
