Hello, I have had an OCZ Vertex Plus drive that died quite some time ago. I have requested data sheets from Toshiba SSD Support however they have been less than helpful. Quote: I do not have the information you require for this project. OCZ Technology that produced the Vertex Plus drive filed bankruptcy in late 2013, none of that information is even available to us. When attempting to Mount the SSD it is not recognized by the operating system, it does not populate as a device in the device manager of Windows 7 Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, I have also tried to mount this device with Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa and Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS or Fedora 14. The D1 LED illuminates blue (unsure if this is a multicolor led) the connector soldering is in-tact and not come de-soldered. there are no warps on the pcb The tools that I have are as follows: FLUKE 115 true RMS multimeter 200X USB Digital Handheld Microscope with Built-in LEDs YIHUA-862D+ Hot Air Rework station External sata Enclosure Here are some images of the PCB: https://i.imgur.com/C0ByrE0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/x7Rc7IU.jpg I've done some research on this and have hit a wall and any help working on this would be appreciated, I am a DIY'er this is my own drive and it's not for a commercial customer or otherwise. My electrical understanding is limited, to reading resistance and voltage I don't think I have the proper tools to test capacitance |

Assuming that it is using the IDX110... controller, it is supported by PC3000 SSD. It has been quite a while since I've encountered an OCZ SSD, but it is likely suffering from the usual issues with SSDs that get them stuck in an unresponsive mode. I don't know if there are any other tools designed to handle those SSDs. So, you can go the route of spending a lot of money on a PC3000 system with the SSD and DE add-ons, taking note that the license is non-transferable or you can send it off to a data recovery lab who is already equipped to handle it. I can't speak to pricing of other labs, but my lab charges $500 CAD for these types of cases. There may be some who will charge less and many who will charge a lot more. |

All voltages should be measured against a ground reference, eg a screw hole or SATA ground. |

Those voltages appear to be OK. Your next step would be to examine the output from the serial port (J2 ?), but it will probably only confirm what you have already been advised. BTW, what is the IDX part number on the controller IC? |

In that document is the jumper on technology mode? Or is jumper off technology mode. Because my drive has a jumper on it at the moment . |

I'm not in the DR business, but my reading of that tech note is that the jumper needs to be installed in order for the drive to fall back to "tech mode". AISI, if your Indilinx controller is not "brain dead", then the drive should identify itself over SATA as "Yatapdong Barefoot-ROM". For normal operation, the jumper should be removed. Perhaps we should continue our troubleshooting along the hardware path rather than firmware? Could you measure the voltages at the pins of the "B048V" chip? Your measurements would suggest that my initial guess was wrong, ie it is not a load switch. Perhaps it is a reset supervisor? Edit: It appears that the part is a crystal oscillator: |

@Kefco, do you have any way (eg a 50MHz / 100MHz oscilloscope) to determine whether the crystal is oscillating? I suspect that the part is a 48Mhz oscillator. It should be cheap to replace. |
