Hi all,

Excuse my ignorance at this subject. I read the rules first, but if I failed to read/do something, please let me know so I can set it straight.

I have a WD Green 240GB (WDS240G2G0A) SATA, that died on me. I can see the disk sometimes in the bios, it even shows up in OSX or Windows straight after boot. But when I try to connect to it, it disappears.
I can even see the partition table sometimes (!), but no access.

What would be a good starting point for me to figure out data recovery for this drive? (no need to fix the drive, recover data would be enough)

Many thanks in advance

I don't think there is a DR professional alive that could change the heads on this drive... This model is one of those special headless WD's

Please do let us know if it does work out ...

It did!

Many thanks to Spildit for the tip on hddsuperclone.
I made a ubuntu live usb drive, and installed hddsuperclone on it. It took several restarts to get the SSD to show up (which is the problem to begin with), but once it did, I did a block level copy to an old HHD.
This worked like a charm!
Now pulling an image of this disk to the NAS to be extra careful, and then off to buy a new SSD for the Macbook.

Again, many many thanks for the tip! My wife (who it belonged to, and who SHOULD have used the Nas to backup her stuff to begin with) is absolutely ecstatic.

Have a wonderful evening!

Alex
