Simple question first:

I have an Intel SSD and it failed a firmware update - the update tool crapped out with an error during the flash (Windows-based, yes I realize I should have done it from the bootable media, I know, it was stupid, and the drive is useless so I know, I know).

Because of the failed update and having no clue how far along it got, when I attempted to reboot the laptop it of course could not detect the SSD anymore because the SSD's controller can't communicate with the host controller on the laptop motherboard. That does *NOT* mean that the data stored on the SSD is corrupt or damaged in any way, shape, or form, it's a simple (well it should be) of the drive's controller being non-responsive because of the failed firmware update.

The important question second:

Is it theoretically or actually possible to flash a firmware update onto an SSD by programming the necessary chip directly and bypassing the SATA controller which of course isn't working on the drive anymore? If possible, is there any service out there that people would recommend for doing such a task? I'm not looking for data recovery services, I'm not looking to scrap the drive entirely, I just want to know if it's possible to have the necessary chip (I presume it's an EPROM of some kind on the mainboard for the SSD) programmed "by hand" basically and potentially restore it to a functional state?

Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks.
