You must be equally careful with lasers as they can damage the PCB causing shorts, damage vias, or damage the IC underneath the PCB..

when exactly do you want to start turning a profit on flash drive recovery? ;-)

also can you do good quality pic of other side?

It really comes down to the PCB thickness, power level, wave length, and angle.. too aggressive and you'll damage the device beyond recovery.. too minimal and it won't strip the mask at all.. there is a very fine middle ground..

UFDs you can get away with a lot.. MicroSD's not so much, some SDs are okay but others aren't, especially the ones that use this weird "thick" glossy solder mask.

If you're too aggressive it will literally strip the PCB and all you'll see are copper traces on either side of the PCB (especially on SanDisk MicroSD)

"Personally" I use a combination of laser and scratch brush.. Laser to remove half the mask and scratch brush to remove the rest.. I find its safer.. although honestly unless it looks risky i'll carefully use a scratch brush masking off sensitive areas with tape..
