Post subject:  SED Drive Locked

Hi all,

MODEL: WD5000LMVW-11CKRS0
PCB NO.: 2060-771859-000

I've swap ROM chip to SATA PCB (2060-771852-001)

I believed most of you are no stranger to this hard drive, yes it is SED DRIVE LOCKED hard drive.
I follow the instruction from Ace's blog (PC-3000 for HDD. How to solve the SED problem in 2,5″ WD drives) till --> "5. Start the utility in Kernel mode, load DIR and loader into RAM using Work with RAM->Load DIR in RAM option."

UDMA log show "Module ID 0B reading error Data request error - Device Error Detected: "SED DRIVE LOCKED"

Out of curiosity, I started step 1 again (isolate head) --> Work with ROM->SA regions editor->Do it now, and I noticed the 'SA Region' in Sector Editor turned back to green again, which I remembered it will only turn into green if we 'Allow
SA Access". It seems like the action is not executed for some reason and this is why it still gave me the "SED DRIVE LOCKED' error.

Please help me to understand the logic behind this issue, does that means the heads are bad or the disk?

Thanks

This procedure is done in ROM
From the pic. Attached I see you're doing it in RAM (???)
When you repower the drive its been lost.

Jermy, you are right. Silly mistake done by me.
Right, I've gone through the procedure and now the drive is unlocked with full HDD ID.

I've done

1. Module check - All critical modules are good

2. HDD resources been backup

3. Head test ~ both heads are working

Simply couldn't view sector (UNC error). Now based on the 'Head Test' result the heads should be good but I still go ahead with "RAM Head map editing on WD drives" test, without avail... So the heads are good :D

Any idea?

Best Regards
