DE raw recovery - poor results

April 21st, 2017, 17:08

I got a car camera (DVR) with deleted movies.

Analysis of the FAT partition has allowed to retrieve 7 movies.
In raw mode, I recovered 3 videos.

And finally - free photorec has retrieved 15 films!

Am I doing something wrong or Data Extractor cannot cope with raw recovery mode?

DE is not the best option in the world, as the other solutions it has positive and negative features. In your case, the specialized program just did its job better then DE. Probably, manual work will give even better result.

Not always,
we created a custom Headers for some special formats (i.e. DVR`s)
you will need to Know it more my friend n dig more..

@andy17d

Car DVR`s usually saves to MicroSD memories, FAT & formatted (re-recording after) will not help much
you will get partial clips IF FOUND

good luck

This model has a built-in memory formatted in FAT. Fortunately, when connected to the computer is full access to this memory.

I have recovered data in raw mode.
I am only disappointed by the low effectiveness of DE, much worse than the free photorec.

I thought initially it was a matter of setting a step value. However, even setting to 1 hasn't changed anything.

I really don`t think that DE can be judged by RAW results (compared with other Apps)
the real power is really somewhere else.

in Addition, you can create a custom RAW list for DE and import it to the list (they added this option recently)

but again, your case is FLASH related NOT HDD

Why should that make any difference in the OP's case, assuming it is in fact a standard FAT file system?

My question was rhetorical. That is, there is no difference in this case. It is a purely logical recovery.
