Post subject: | Error when saving a folder |
After imaging alla files and folders I try to save them. After some good saved I start to receive this error in log window and process will interrupt: Operation aborted Error FS.Fill_Dir() -> Operation aborted Operation aborted Error FS.Fill_Dir() -> Operation aborted Operation aborted Error FS.Fill_Dir() -> Operation aborted [......] I found the problem: It cant create this folder ".AppleDouble" By default, Windows doesn’t allow to create folder name starting with dot(.), because by default Windows system is considering the name starting with dot(.) as a file extension. I haven't found a way to exclude them by saving (DE can exclude files but not folders) Any suggestion? |

Windows will allow to create files starting with a dot with no problems. I´ve just tested with a windows XP and a windows 7 machine. Do not have a win10 machine here, but I believe it to be the same, because a lot of folders from Java, Oracle and GoogleChrome are named like that. My first guest would be that either the folder structure is corrupt at that point, or your path has turned too long when windows try to create that additional folder. Try to recover to a shorter path or creating a SUBST´ed drive letter and restore to that. |

I suppose what Spildit are observing is that using the GUI windows won´t allow to create a dot-folder. Using command prompt that limitation doesn´t exist, and I would believe some software using windows internal functions shouldn´t have problems with it ( otherwise, how would software create folders with special characters in the name ? ) By the way, that .oracle_jre_usage in my screenshot was created by java, not by me, so installed software can create those also. |

CMD prompt, Java installer, etc, would use windows api also. I think explorer checks the name to see if something with a wrong name ( a file named COM1, for example ) is being created, then it never passes the name to the corresponding function. Either way, if those dot-named folders were to present a problem, more people would have already complained about them , wouldn´t they ? After all, many users of pc3000 muse have already encountered this kind of name for folders, since apple uses it, and also many software in the windows world. |

Well, can you try saving the files to a folder near the root of the drive ? Even better, try to save the folder directly up to the .Apple folder to the root of the drive ? Also, can you save the files from the inside of that folder to someplace ? |

Also, can you save the files from the inside of that folder to someplace ? Problem is only about creation of folder starting with dot (position did'nt make difference). Anyway I can save the files from the inside of that folder with no problem. Problem is only creation of this damn folder! (I'm awaiting answer from ACE support........ they need to talk with developers) |
