Hello,

WD5000BMVW-11AJGS3 stops spinning because of firmware issue.

Any pointers on how to solve it other than HOT SWAP as not having suitable donor.

Hotswap will not work on this case because of added adaptives in ROM modules.
If spindle stops then it could be symptom of some hardware damage.
You need to give more details like if there is knocking of heads, status registers displayed, if prior work was attempted etc...

I've never seen a WD which stops spinning without a hardware issue, PCB, heads or platters. Not to mention we currently can't average the head adaptives on FBlite drives. I'd try each individual head in ROM until the drive stays spinning or if you suspect the ROM might not be original try a few other roms from similar drives. Ultimately there could be a corrupted ROM which you can rebuilt once you get the drive to stay spinning and get access to the user area.
