Hello gurus, I've been thinking about this topic for quite a while and I was wondering how many solutions could be available at the moment for achieving this purpose. I mean, if you use your pc3k ssd utilities there is a function in there with which you can refresh your ssd "surface" instantaneously, as all the sectors are going to be set to 00. It is very effective and quite handy as it is not a simple drive formatting. So how can achieve that in some other ways? Thank you! |

Do you mean a low level format? I take it the purpose is repair not recovery. And there is no way to "set" all sectors to "00" instantaneously only a full format (overwrite). You can probably use any low level format tool one of them offered here on HDDguru in the downloads section. |

I would be surprised if there weren't VSCs to erase the user area. Otherwise some non-encrypted SSDs support the ATA Security Erase Unit and Security Erase Unit Enhanced commands. Encrypted SSDs support cryptographic erase, but that's something else. Another way to essentially "refresh" the surface prior to a high level format might be to trim all blocks. |

Erasing the crypto data or trimming blocks is still not "set to 00" and still not instant. I believe the OP is referring to a low level format with translator regeneration to refresh" the SSD back to use. |

Why do you need to erase the data? To use the SSD (like after repair) or to destruct the data? |

Hi everybody and thanks for the kind replies. My thoughts are not driven by particular requirements in this specific moment, but I used that function in some occasion, and I'm just wondering how to reproduce that without the aid of special tools — and for the sake of pure knowledge of course. Yes, the "wipe" is supposed to happen almost instantly. Thank you |

Hi spildit, yes it is what i said and the reason behind my question actually. I'm wondering the same as you do, how to reproduce the same effect without specific tools just for the sake of knowledge (and can come in handy later on). Unfortunately I'm not more in business with that firm, so I don't have access to that specific tool anymore — so far |

Anyway, if I remember well, that option — as well as some others — was available only for ssd utilities. In addition, again following my memory, I used that option for a samsung evo drive the last time. Unfortunately, even though I love this kind of business, I do not have other firms available here at the moment, so I cannot check it out by myself. Maybe someday |
