Hi
y work in a hardware company and each day we have for testing many drives. we usually use mhdd - erase, scan, etc
i have seen on few drive especially on Maxtor a very slow rate at erase around 6-7000kb/s and at scan all is ok 50-60000kb/s
the test are made in this conditions: mainboard ata 133, drive is detected in bios, drive is using bios function at erase( no pio mode), drive is ok no bad sectors, apparently no bad modules( tested whith pc3k pci version), no pcb problem, no bad cable
if i use victoria windows all is ok at erase( good speed 50-60000kb/s) butt i don't want to use victoria because mhdd is much better.
i use mhdd and pc3k for 2 years
i know that the problem is in the fw of the drive because i made self test on such a drive and after that i can do erase at 50-60k kb/s. even if i stop the self test after the first restart( calypso, n40p) the erase command on the drive works ok.
any one knows what module(s) is bad?

mulan, I'd try that on another motherboard (just in case it is a BIOS issue). Do other hard drives erase at full speed?

Actually I've seen such weird things with Maxtors as well. I haven't looked into the issue though, since it did not matter at that time...
