Hi All,

I have a Maxtor hard disk with a firmware problem. It's detected in BIOS as Maxtor CALYPSO.
The disk sounds normal and does not make any unusual sounds.

I am using PC-3000 PCI for Windows With Data Extractor. Scanning the module table it appears 2 modules are unreadable. 1 of these is critical to restore the drive to be able to recover the data (this is my goal).

I believe the disk may have a bad sector or problem reading for this module. I have run the option in PC-3000 called 'SA Surface Verification' and have ticked 'reassign bad sectors by writing' but this has not helped. The results are below as well as a screenshot attached.

Any suggestions on what else to try?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Zed

Hi ! normal capacity still undetected ? head map problem I think...Rewrite module #1F. Read again all modules and write back to SA.

I usually solve this problem using ISA. I don't know about PCI...

I don't know about Starling idea (HOT SWAP)....but it's probably better be done in PCI....which I don't have one....

As far as I can understand, UBA 8 error means in ISA this model will be detected in safe mode as Cyl -1 Head 8 and so on (this is module #1F damaged). SA write test usually failed.

Try another loader because ROM loader is different to ROM SA. You must try HDD ID reading and if you only see a correct serial you can try start program. Of course the hdd must you have it in safe mode? No try star utilitar program if you don't see correct serial because adaptive reading-writing are false.

hi;zed
IF is critical for the Hd recovery to get data back
as far as i say:
1 try to get a healthy identical one from the drive which has same mode, same capacity, same checksum, and overwrite then.
2 check the SA copy by running the other sa head and got a good 1F and overwrite .look,we may say the head you current operating is main one,and other heads working with the main one are secondary ,but they may have a sa copy too.

1. Put the hdd in safe-mode
2. Star with loader YCRXXXXX in alternate SA
3. Save modules and loader
4. No need data..., Run->Selfscan
